It’s with great disappointment I have to announce the closing of our orignal location – the Astoria Queens Reuse Center. The massive wave of construction in the neighborhood has disrupted our business and our landlord now wants to double our rent.
We have to shut down our Queens location by November 30th.
We want to thank all customers, donors and volunteers who supported us at this location in Queens over the last decade. When we started Big Reuse at this location (as a program called Build It Green) in 2005, we never imagined the people we would touch and the community we would develop.
However, we are happy to say our Brooklyn Reuse location will still be open and continuning our mission of keeping materials out of the landfill and promoting reuse and recycling. We’re still taking donations and making sales. Please continue to visit us there!
Until our closing, we’ll be having major clearance sales. Starting today, take 30% off everything in the Astoria, Queens location – in store this week. Look for web sales starting next week!
All of our other work will continue in Queens – we’re continuing to pick up at our compost dropoffs in Western Queens, compost at our Queens composting site underneath the Queensborough Bridge, and run street tree care events. We’ill also continue to provide outreach to support the City’s rollout of organics collection for composting to the whole city.
Look for ways to support Big Reuse as we create a strategic plan and raise funds to reopen a reuse center location to serve Queens. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you in Brooklyn!
