Citywide Waste Containerization is Coming!
This week, Mayor Eric Adams and NYC's Department of Sanitation Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced a new containerization policy for commercial businesses. In March 2024 the new rule will require businesses to place putrescible waste (trash which rots or decays quickly) into containers with tightly fitted lids. This is estimated to lead to the containerization of 20 million pounds of waste per day. This effort is part of the city's agenda to reduce the rat population by keeping bags of waste off the streets and sidewalks.
