When we started planning for our end-of-year fundraising, we had no idea we would lose 100% of our city funding by the end of the year. We were hoping for individual donations to help with our street tree care and reuse center. It turns out we needed your donations to help keep our decade old community composting program operating. Your donations are more vital than ever and we are so grateful the community has provided so much support for community composting.
You all far exceeded our goal of $20,000 and 200 donors! We can't say thanks enough!
We are able to maintain basic community composting operations at our site under the QueensBoro Bridge - we had to shut down 70 Food Scrap Drop Offs at community gardens and other partners, layoff 7 compost staff and 9 curbside outreach staff. A generous $116,000 donation from Mill and other donations from other philanthropic partners, foundations and individual donors like you will allow us to operate at about 20% of our former capacity.
Thank you again for donating, sharing and supporting our campaign. We are still taking donations if you want to make a contribution to start the new year off right! We are picking up freshly printed tshirts next week as premium for donations over $50!
