We asked our volunteers and Master Composter cohort why they volunteer and learn with Big Reuse, and we loved their answers! New Yorkers truly deserve nutrient-rich soil, clean air, more shade, access to environmental education, and - most importantly - a community that supports their needs.

We believe that local action and engagement makes a BIG impact. As we continue to bring reuse, composting programs and education, tree care, and tree planting across NYC neighborhoods, we’re grateful to deepen connections and partnerships with residents and neighbors in all five boroughs.
This year, we’re celebrating a decade of Big Reuse and are planning new initiatives that will divert more materials from landfills, and strengthen neighborhoods against climate impacts. This includes opening two new composting sites and opening a new Reuse Center at 378 Troutman Street. In 2026, we’ll plant at least 140 new trees in communities in Brooklyn and Queens and care for 1,000+ existing trees with community groups and local volunteers.
We’re positioned to make a bigger impact in NYC in the new year, but we need your help to provide the support and resources that New Yorkers deserve. With federal, state, and city funding uncertainties, Big Reuse relies on support from people like you who understand the value in local environmental and community-based work.
Donate today to support Big Reuse and the work of volunteers and community partners who help make our city greener and more liveable!
