Big Reuse is installing new composting bins in partnership with community gardens. With the help of local community gardeners they installed new compost bins this past week.
The Q garden is a community garden that was an unused lot but now a beautiful, productive community garden located in Flatbush, Brooklyn. Their garden provides a welcoming, public green space that is open at least 10 hours each week. A local source of fresh, pesticide-free fruits, vegetables, flowers, and herbs. As well as providing space for people to learn and participate in gardening, composting, and sustainability projects.
The compost bins that were placed were rat-proof metal compost cubes that were created by Daniel Wendlek at 45th Street Green Space with the help of their crew. They have been using the bins since October 2021, and developed the layered composting process.
Big Reuse is excited to make composting more available and accessible for New Yorkers by installing these bins at local green spaces across NYC.
