Big Reuse's 2024 in Review - Big Reuse

Big Reuse's 2024 in Review

It's been another transformational year at Big Reuse, and we wanted to highlight some of our achievements and new initiatives from 2024.

  • We started planting trees, launching off with street tree planting in Astoria, Queens in partnership with Rise Light & Power.
  • We launched our Tree Guard Project, funded by Council Member Lincoln Restler, making affordable tree guards available to 13 districts across the city.
  • We began hosting Street Tree Care Workshops, with funding from MillerKnoll Foundation.
  • We created and shared our Street Tree Care Guide in both English and Spanish!
  • We reopened 18 food scrap drop-off locations across four boroughs.
  • We worked with over 2000 volunteers and cared for 800 street trees in the process.
  • We diverted over 130,000 home goods, 61,000 pieces of clothing, and 81,000 pieces of furniture from landfills at our Reuse Center in Gowanus.

These are just some of the things you all, our community, helped us achieve this past year—all with support and funding from NY City Council. We look forward to all the growth 2025 will bring!
