Volunteering as a group can add something fun to your celebration. Depending on the event, your group might help with programs like Street Tree Care or Community Composting and learn more about New York City’s neighborhoods and green spaces. You don’t need any experience or special knowledge about the environment. Our team will guide you through the work so everyone can learn, join in, and have a good time together.
A Bach Party That Gave Back
“The range of attendees was awesome,” said Julia Li, Street Tree Care Project Coordinator at Big Reuse, about a recent street tree care event we hosted with a group celebrating a couple’s nuptials.
Along with the bach party, the event brought together a newly certified Master Composter, students completing summer service, an NYC Parks employee, and local residents who found the event online. Because the event took place on the same block as our Gowanus warehouse and offices, it felt especially meaningful for our team. Reflecting on the impact afterward, Julia added, “It’s been really, really rewarding for me personally to pass by on my way to and from work and be regularly reminded that these trees are now nourished thanks to a bunch of neighbors who showed up, chatted while sweating together for a couple hours, and then left with smiles on their faces.”
