Big Reuse provides local action and provides for community members with accessible, hands-on education that can create the betterment of the city's environment. Big Reuse hopes to broaden community members and to continue the work of caring for local ecology by spreading the knowledge, resources, and tools far and wide. One of the prime examples is Big reuse and Graham Avenue business working together to improve and transform street trees in District 34. With Big Reuse’s recent events for hands on street care education, Graham Ave BID was inspired through partnering and volunteering with Big Reuse to plant 15 new trees in addition to the 62 they had previously (77 in total). Graham Ave Bid is also working on getting tree guards for all of their tree beds.
The before and after:
The importance of street tree care!
Street trees make communities healthier, cooler, & more resilient! Street trees combat urban heat island effect, save energy & regulate temperatures through increased canopy. Street tree care addresses urban stormwater runoff by increasing the soil’s ability to hold water and improve air quality. This Blog was written by CUNY Spring Forward Intern William.
