Hi! I’m Sajid Abrar, a third-year marketing major at Baruch College and a marketing intern here at Big Reuse. I wanted to give you a quick look at what goes into the content you see on our social media and how I’ve been helping share Big Reuse’s story online.
Capturing the Magic In Person
Every week, I spend one day on site at the Reuse Center, capturing photos and videos of all the amazing things we offer: clothing, furniture, books, home goods—you name it. There’s always something unique on the floor, and I love highlighting items that deserve a second chance.
Everyone at the center is incredibly kind and helpful, which has made it easy to ask questions and learn more about the work that goes on behind the scenes. It’s been a great environment to grow in and be part of a mission-driven team.
Remote Projects
The rest of the week, I work remotely. That’s when I take all the content I captured and dive into editing, writing captions, recording voiceovers, and turning everything into a video. I also help with other marketing tasks that can be done off site. Things like learning more about Reuse so I can find ideas that relate and promote Big Reuse more effectively.
This balance between in-person content creation and remotely doing other tasks gives me the chance to be both creative and strategic, something I really value as a marketing student.
More Than Just the Reuse Center
While our social media highlights a lot of the amazing finds at the Reuse Center, we also use it to promote Big Reuse’s broader mission. That includes spreading the word about our street tree care events, compost drop-off locations, and other sustainability-focused community programs.
It’s been incredibly rewarding to be a part of this work and to help connect people with ways they can make a difference, whether that’s through reusing, recycling, or volunteering.
